what is jamboree on pedals?

Jamboree on Pedals (JOP) is an annual event, held each March, for Scouts from around the world to ride together.

All Scouts, of every age and location, are encouraged to get plan and/or participate in a cycling adventure this March. There is no one central event, rather lots of Patrols, Project Patrols, sections, and Groups all undertaking their own cycling adventures.

There are no minimum distances, minimum time-limits, or strict rules (it can be adapted to your conditions, relevant OAS stages or other badgework). It’s your cycling adventure, and you can decide how you want your it to look and feel.

Your JOP adventure can be held anytime in March (or close late Feb or April if necessary).

The proceeds from badge sales support the development of more Scout Cycling activities and equipment across Australia.

How do I participate?

To participate in Jamboree on Pedals (JOP) simply organise or participate in one or more Scout cycling events during March.

The Resources page contains a series of resources, including program ideas, pre-ride checklists, sample programs and risk assessment templates to help your preparation.

Once you’ve got your plan confirmed, the next step is to register your activity. You can do it before or after you complete the ride.

Finally, purchase JOP badges for yourself and the others participating in the cycling adventure. Once again you can pre-order, or wait until you know how many people attend and then order the exact amount.

Badge orders are done via the ScoutShop who will also coordinate shipping. You can place your order by clicking here

What is the history of Jamboree on pedals?

Inspired by Jamboree on the Air (JOTA), Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) and Jamboree on the Trail (JOTT), Jamboree on Pedals (JOP) was developed by the Scout Cycling Team in Victoria to encourage Scout members to get cycling.

The first two Jamboree on Pedals (2020 and 2021) were impacted by COVID-19.

The inaugural JOP in 2020 led to 373 badges being sent to participants from Victoria and ACT.

The second JOP in 2021 shipped slightly fewer badges with participants from Victoria and Western Australia. The same badge was used due to both years events being impacted by COVID-19.

The third JOP in 2022 was the first to include a year specific badge and the relaxation of lockdown requirements let to a big expansion with 1283 badges sent to participants in Victoria, NSW, QLD, WA, Tasmania, ACT and the NT.

The fourth JOP in 2023 was the largest yet, with more than 1900 badges sold and participants from every state. The badges were sold and shipped in partnership with ScoutShop for the first time.
